Earlier this year, I found myself in desperate need of a little R&R.
My destination turned out to be a place that had been at the top of my bucket list for a while. I was heading to the Turks and Caicos Islands, one of the most sought-after destinations.
Filled with everything from rugged cliffs to diverse marine life, these stunning islands are a sight to behold. This tropical destination has over thirty islands making it one of the world’s popular beach destinations for singles, couples, and multi-generational families.
Though technically in the Atlantic Ocean, the Turks and Caicos Islands are considered part of the Caribbean Islands. In fact, this iconic string of islands is rated as the home to the Caribbean’s most beautiful beaches.
The majority of my time was spent in the capital island Providenciales, or “Provo,” as the locals call it. This is where much of the Turks and Caicos population resides. It’s also home to the spectacular Grace Bay Beach and several luxury hotels and resorts in the archipelago.
I was consistently struck by the changing color of the ocean. The water is a color of blue you’ve never seen. I thought I would spend all of my time relaxing on the beach. Boy, was I wrong!
I quickly realized that these stunning islands have much more to offer. While the Turks and Caicos Islands are known for luxury resorts and pristine beaches, I discovered plenty of other fun and luxurious things to do during my trip.

HIGH LIFE ON A PRIVATE YACHT
Next to relaxing on any number of incredible beaches, boat cruises and charters are a must-do.
Nothing says luxury like renting a private yacht for a day out on the water, exploring the expansive turquoise ocean, uninhabited cays and coral reefs teeming with colorful marine wildlife.
Depending on where you’re staying, you can be picked up on a local beach near your resort or have transport organized to and from your accommodation.
We chartered a lovely and comfortable boat that came with an easy-going captain and first mate. After chatting with them about what we wanted to do, they put together an exciting itinerary that included snorkeling, a lunch stop, and island hopping.
The day’s highlight was visiting the deserted island used as the backdrop for the annual Victoria Secret swimsuit catalog. Sounds too good to be true? Well, it doesn’t have to be!
There are a variety of yacht packages that offer an endless array of options for you, and all of the water-based activities are customizable to your tastes and preferences.
Who doesn’t love lounging on a tropical beach? Take it to another level by lounging on the top deck of your very own private yacht (and don’t forget the champagne!).
HORSEBACK RIDING IN THE OCEAN
High on my bucket list for my trip was horseback riding on the beaches.
To my delight, it turned out to be so easy to check that off my list on the Turks and Caicos Islands.
I’ve gone horseback riding all over the world, and I can say with no exaggeration that doing so on the Turks and Caicos Islands was the best experience ever!
The beaches in the Turks and Caicos, with their turquoise water and soft white sand, offer a spectacular setting for horse riding.
Experienced or not, everyone is welcome to explore its beaches on friendly, well-trained horses. Before rides, you’ll be given a quick mini-course on equipment, safety and basic commands.
The best part of this activity is that the horses love heading into the water up to their belly level, making the ride both comfortable and unforgettable.
My favorite part of the sunset ride was on the way back to the stables. My horse Nemo decided he was ready to be home and set off in a fast canter. Initially, I was like, “Whoa, Nelly,” but then remembered my training. Using a combination of rein-control and knee commands, I slowed him down to a fast walk. Whew, talk about exhilarating!
This magnificent ride will leave you feeling on top of the world, galloping toward the sunset on Long Bay Beach, Blue Hill Beach, and Five Cays Beach. This excursion is perfect for couples, groups, singles, and families.
No need to bring your phones or cameras; the helpful guides will capture professional shots just for you and your group.
PARASAILING ON THE HIGH SEAS
Looking for a breath-taking view of the beaches and pristine waters on Provo Island? Parasailing is the perfect option.
This popular excursion offers you some of the best bird-eye views of the islands, including a unique view of one of the finest and complex barrier reefs in the world.
There’s also a good chance you’ll see some of the larger sea creatures such as dolphins and sting rays swimming below.
Local tour operators take groups of up to 12 people out to the anchor point, then launch singles or couples or entire families into the air. Each ride lasts about 15-20 minutes.
The time will fly by quickly as you have fun soaring 500 feet in the air and gazing out toward the horizon where the blue sky meets the waters. I guarantee you’ll never want to come back to earth.
There are so many different ways to experience parasailing, but I highly recommend a private session with just you and your bestie, partner, or family.
Some private tours will even take you as far out as Shipwreck, which is an added bonus! No experience is necessary; just bring your enthusiasm!
Simply put, parasailing is one of those activities that everyone should try at least once in their lifetime. The memories from such a thrilling adventure will be etched in your heart forever.

ECO PADDLEBOARDING IN A NATURE RESERVE
The ocean waters around the Turks and Caicos Islands are world-renowned for their phenomenal hues of azure and turquoise.
Eco paddleboarding gives you a chance to get up close and personal with these crystal clear blue waters. This water sport is easy to learn and has a low environmental impact. Paddleboarding doesn’t require any batteries, a motor or petrol and will barely add to your carbon footprint.
Many eco paddleboarding tours take place in the Princess Alexandra Nature Reserve. Here, solo travelers can join a small group for the excursion. I can also book a private tour for a couple or a small family group.
You’ll be led by a knowledgeable guide and learn all about the delicate coastal ecosystem.
The Reserve is home to an incredible marine environment, and you’ll very likely glide by baby sharks, hawksbill turtles, stingrays, several species of starfish, reef fish, upside down jellyfish, green herons, and brown pelicans.
For most people, seeing baby sharks is usually one of the main highlights of their paddleboarding trip!
