Isla Holbox
Holbox Island is located on the northern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, off the coast of the Riviera Maya. It is about 75 miles northwest of Cancun and can be accessed by ferry from the town of Chiquila on the mainland. Between the months of June and September, these gentle giants migrate to the area, offering visitors a chance to swim alongside them in their natural habitat. Isla Mujeres
Isla Mujeres is an island located off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, about 8 miles northeast of Cancun. The Garrafon Natural Reef Park is another must-see attraction where you can swim with dolphins, go zip-lining, or relax in a hammock overlooking the ocean.
Just like Isla Holbox, Isla Mujeres is another seafood lover’s paradise. The island’s fresh catches of the day are served up in delicious dishes like ceviche, a seafood dish made with lime juice, onions, and chili peppers, or tacos filled with crispy fried fish.
Don’t forget to try traditional Mexican dishes like empanadas and tamales, which are also popular here. And for a refreshing drink, there’s nothing better than a margarita or a michelada made with local beer, lime juice, hot sauce, and spice.
Playa Del Carmen
Playa Del Carmen is a coastal resort town located in the Riviera Maya region on the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. It is situated approximately 42 miles south of Cancun and 12 miles west of Cozumel.
If you don’t mind a day trip, the Mayan ruins of Tulum are a must-see. The ruins are located just a short drive away and offer a glimpse into the ancient civilization that once thrived in the area. You can also take a ferry to Cozumel, which is known for its fantastic snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities. If you love shopping, Cozumel is the place to be!
If you’re looking for some thrills, Playa Del Carmen has plenty of water sports to choose from. Jet skiing, parasailing, and kiteboarding are all popular activities, and there are plenty of local companies that offer rentals and lessons.
One of the top attractions in Playa Del Carmen is the Quinta Avenida, or Fifth Avenue. This pedestrian street is lined with shops, restaurants, and bars and is the perfect place to soak up the local culture. Whether you’re looking for souvenirs to bring back home or just want to grab a bite to eat, the Quinta Avenida has something for everyone.
For those interested in history and architecture, the Nuestra Señora del Carmen church is a must-see. The church was built in the 16th century and is a beautiful example of Spanish colonial architecture.
It’s a big no-no to visit Playa Del Carmen and fail to indulge in delicious Mexican cuisine. Seafood is a popular choice, and plenty of restaurants serve fresh catches of the day. El Fogon is a popular spot serving delicious tacos al pastor, while Alux offers a more upscale dining experience in a unique setting – a cave! Don’t forget to try some churros from Churros El Moro for a sweet treat.
Cozumel
Cozumel is an island located off the eastern coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, approximately 20 kilometers east of the mainland town of Playa del Carmen. The island is surrounded by the stunning turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, and there’s no shortage of activities to enjoy both on land and in the water.
One of the best things to do in Cozumel is to explore the Chankanaab National Park. This incredible park is home to a stunning beach, a botanical garden, a Mayan replica village, and an underwater world that is perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving. Visitors can also swim with dolphins or relax and take in the beautiful scenery.
For on shore activities, the Punta Sur Eco Beach Park is a great option. This natural park is located on the southern tip of the island and features a lighthouse, a crocodile sanctuary, and a beautiful beach. It’s a great place to hike, bird watch, or simply relax and soak up the sun.
Cozumel also has a rich history, and visitors can explore the island’s past by visiting the San Gervasio Mayan Ruins. A trip to Cozumel would only be complete after sampling some local cuisines. Seafood lovers will be in heaven with the island’s fresh catch of the day, which can be enjoyed at restaurants such as La Perlita and La Conchita del Caribe.
Those looking for a more traditional Mexican dining experience can head to Los Otates or Pancho’s Backyard for delicious dishes like mole and chiles rellenos.
For a more casual dining experience, visitors can try some of the local street food, such as Cochinita Pibil – pulled pork marinated in lemon and orange, which can be found at the island’s many food stands and markets.
Tulum
Tulum is a town located on the Riviera Maya in Mexico, approximately 81 miles south of Cancun and 40 miles south of Playa del Carmen. It is most famous for its well-preserved Mayan ruins. A trip to the Tulum Mayan Ruins offers an excellent opportunity to learn about the fascinating history and culture of the ancient Mayan civilization.
The Mayans were skilled architects, engineers, and mathematicians who developed a complex writing system, made significant advances in agriculture, and built impressive cities and temples. The intricate carvings, towering pyramids, and intricate stonework of the ruins are awe-inspiring, and the natural beauty of the surrounding landscapes only adds to the experience.
So make sure to visit Tulum Archaeological Site. As you make your way through this ancient Mayan city, you’ll be transported back in time to a world of grand temples, imposing fortresses, and stunning views of the Caribbean Sea.
